Child Safety Policy
Last updated: January 1, 2025
SafeSpora is committed to protecting children and ensuring the platform is not used in any way that could harm minors. This policy explains how we approach child safety across our app and community features.
SafeSpora is not directed at children under the age of 13. Users under 18 should use the Service under parental guidance, as described in our Terms of Service.
Our Commitment
SafeSpora is a community safety platform designed for adults and older teenagers who want to stay informed about safety conditions in their area. We take the following commitments seriously:
- We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13
- We do not allow content that exploits, endangers, or sexualises minors in any form
- We cooperate fully with law enforcement when child safety is at risk
- We review and remove harmful content involving minors as quickly as possible
Age Requirements
To create a SafeSpora account, users must be at least 13 years old. Users aged 13–17 may use the Service but are encouraged to do so with parental knowledge and guidance. If we become aware that a user is under 13, we will promptly delete their account and any associated data.
Prohibited Content Involving Minors
SafeSpora has a strict zero-tolerance policy for any content that:
- Depicts or promotes the sexual exploitation of minors (CSAM) — this is illegal and will be reported to relevant authorities including the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and law enforcement
- Targets, grooms, or attempts to exploit children
- Shares personal information about a minor without the consent of a parent or guardian
- Uses the platform to facilitate contact with minors for harmful purposes
Safety Reports Involving Children
The platform may be used to report safety incidents — including those that may involve children, such as kidnapping alerts or dangerous road conditions near schools. These safety alerts are an important community function and are subject to our standard AI verification and moderation processes to ensure accuracy.
If a safety incident involves an immediate risk to a child's life or safety, please call 112 (Nigeria) or your local emergency number immediately before submitting a report on SafeSpora. SafeSpora is a community information tool and is not a replacement for official emergency services.
How to Report Concerns
If you encounter any content on SafeSpora that you believe endangers a child, or if you suspect the platform is being misused in a way that harms a minor, please report it to us immediately. You can:
- Use the in-app report function on any post, alert, or user profile
- Email us directly at founders@safespora.com with the subject line "Child Safety Report"
We take all child safety reports seriously and will investigate within 24 hours. Where illegal content is identified, we will report it to the relevant Nigerian authorities and international bodies including NCMEC where applicable.
Data Protection for Minors
SafeSpora does not knowingly collect sensitive personal data from minors. If a minor submits a safety report through the app (for example, a teenager submitting a report about a road incident), that report is treated like any other community submission — it is anonymised, AI-verified, and published only in aggregated form. We do not profile minors or use their data for advertising purposes.
Parents and guardians who believe their child has created a SafeSpora account or submitted data should contact us at the address below to request immediate account deletion and data removal.
Our Moderation Approach
All content on SafeSpora passes through our AI verification layer, which is trained to flag content that may be harmful, including content that could endanger children. Flagged content is escalated to human moderators for review. We continuously improve our moderation models to address emerging threats.
Report a Child Safety Concern
If you have an urgent child safety concern, please email us immediately. We respond to child safety reports within 24 hours.
