SafeSpora ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information about you when you use the SafeSpora mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us and information generated through your use of the Service:
- Account information: Name, email address, username, and profile details when you create an account.
- Location data: Precise GPS location when the app is in use, to provide safety alerts and route guidance relevant to your area. We do not track your location in the background without your explicit consent.
- Community reports: Incident reports, confirmations, and safety updates you submit, including the location and time of submission.
- Fuel and service data: Price reports and ratings you submit for fuel stations and restaurants.
- Device information: Device type, operating system, push notification token, and app version for service delivery and troubleshooting.
- Usage data: App interactions, routes searched, and features used — collected in aggregate and anonymised to improve the product.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To display real-time community safety alerts in your vicinity
- To compute and display safe route recommendations
- To send push notifications about critical safety events near you
- To operate the SOS emergency feature and connect you to emergency services
- To display community-reported fuel prices and restaurant ratings
- To improve and personalise the Service
- To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity
- To comply with legal obligations
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Community visibility: Safety alerts and fuel reports you submit are shared with other users in the relevant area. Your display name may appear alongside your reports.
- Service providers: We use third-party services including Supabase (database), Google Maps Platform (mapping), and Expo (push notifications). Each is bound by data processing agreements.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of any person.
- Business transfers: If SafeSpora is acquired or merged, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Safety reports and fuel price entries are retained to maintain the integrity of community data. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time — see the Delete Account page.
5. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), Supabase row-level security for database access, and hashed credentials. No system is completely secure, and we encourage users to use strong passwords and keep their app up to date.
6. Children's Privacy
SafeSpora is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us immediately. See our Child Safety Policy for more detail.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights including access, correction, deletion, and portability of your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
